Plans Unveiled for Fairground Building in Sandpoint

Engineer Don Largent presented Monday night a $24 668 repair and conversion estimate for the old exhibits building at the fairgrounds to serve as a multi purpose recreation center. He warned heating needs could alter costs and proposed a $2000 committee to study exact use. The council shelved the project for further study.

Bonner County Fair Dates Set for 1972

The fair boards announced the 1972 Bonner County Fair dates in August and September. A horse show week precedes the fair with events August 24 through 27 featuring the Bonner County Horse Show and 4 H horse events.

Missing Army Officer and Wife Found Dead in Lake

The bodies of Lt. Thomas Kendall Phillips and his wife Susan were found in a lake along the Georgia South Carolina boundary after their car plunged from a bridge. Phillips, 24, and Susan, 22, were last seen December 19 leaving Fort McClellan Alabama for a Yuletide visit in Laurel Delaware. Police called it likely a traffic accident after divers recovered the car from 45 feet of water.

Bonner County Horse Show Committee Meeting Notice

The Bonner County Horse Show Committee holds a meeting Friday January 14 at 8 p m in the Sandpoint Community Hall. The purpose is to schedule all horse shows for the coming summer and to obtain use of the outdoor arena. Representatives are asked to attend.

IWF Proposes Bills and Resolutions at Quarterly Meeting

The Idaho Wildlife Federation district meeting in Sandpoint approved six bills for the upcoming legislative session and two resolutions for statewide adoption at the next annual meeting. Delegates from Coeur d Alene St Maries Priest River Clark Fork and Sandpoint attended a Moose meat luncheon. Officers were elected: Al Wietzke president Gus Verdal vice president Bill Knox secretary treasurer Fred Page director Al Elkins director and Ron Knost director. The next meeting will be March 12 at Clark Fork school cafeteria.

Beef Sale Date Set for Panhandle Registered Beef Sale

The Bonner County Cattlemen's Association sets the 1972 Panhandle Registered Beef sale for Saturday February 26 at the Sandpoint Livestock Auction Yards. Entries close January 14 with forms and rules available from the county agent's office. A spokesman promises a good selection of breeding stock.

Bond Issue For River Cleanup OK'd

The South Fork Coeur d Alene Sewer District won a 2.6 million bond issue to fund a river cleanup project in the Coeur d Alene Mining District of northern Idaho. After two failed tries in 1967 and 1968, the measure passed with 71.7 percent support, 2335 voting yes and 1011 no.

Idaho Land Board weighs Priest Lake toll road plan

Boise Idaho The Idaho Land Board was told it would be legal to build a toll road serving cottage area around Priest Lake in northern Idaho Deputy Attorney General John Magel said no state law blocks such a road and D F Engelking the state superintendent urged exploration Atty Gen W Anthony Park noted tolls could draw revenue from Washington residents who own cottages in the area The board also urged a land exchange with the federal government for six parcels along the St Joe and Priest rivers if the area earns scenic or wild river status restricting state use

Two Idaho men arraigned in Missoula drug case

Two Coeur d Alene men Rickert Sparing aged 21 and George Houstin aged 25 were arraigned in Missoula on charges of sale and possession of dangerous drugs after an arrest on Tuesday.
