Engineer Don Largent presented Monday night a $24 668 repair and conversion estimate for the old exhibits building at the fairgrounds to serve as a multi purpose recreation center. He warned heating needs could alter costs and proposed a $2000 committee to study exact use. The council shelved the project for further study.

The fair boards announced the 1972 Bonner County Fair dates in August and September. A horse show week precedes the fair with events August 24 through 27 featuring the Bonner County Horse Show and 4 H horse events.
Missing Army Officer and Wife Found Dead in Lake
The bodies of Lt. Thomas Kendall Phillips and his wife Susan were found in a lake along the Georgia South Carolina boundary after their car plunged from a bridge. Phillips, 24, and Susan, 22, were last seen December 19 leaving Fort McClellan Alabama for a Yuletide visit in Laurel Delaware. Police called it likely a traffic accident after divers recovered the car from 45 feet of water.

Bonner County Horse Show Committee Meeting Notice

IWF Proposes Bills and Resolutions at Quarterly Meeting
The Idaho Wildlife Federation district meeting in Sandpoint approved six bills for the upcoming legislative session and two resolutions for statewide adoption at the next annual meeting. Delegates from Coeur d Alene St Maries Priest River Clark Fork and Sandpoint attended a Moose meat luncheon. Beef Sale Date Set for Panhandle Registered Beef Sale
The Bonner County Cattlemen's Association sets the 1972 Panhandle Registered Beef sale for Saturday February 26 at the Sandpoint Livestock Auction Yards. Entries close January 14 with forms and rules available from the county agent's office. A spokesman promises a good selection of breeding stock.

Bond Issue For River Cleanup OK'd
The South Fork Coeur d Alene Sewer District won a 2.6 million bond issue to fund a river cleanup project in the Coeur d Alene Mining District of northern Idaho. After two failed tries in 1967 and 1968, the measure passed with 71.7 percent support, 2335 voting yes and 1011 no.
