Cat Safely Rescued After Ice Breakthrough Near Hatchery
In shallow Pend Oreille river water a boy named Bill Kennedy fell through thin ice while scraping for a skating patch about 200 yards from the old fish hatchery. He was pulled to shore by a larger cat used in salvage and was not injured. Father Fred Kennedy remarked on the near miss. The incident followed safety notes from the Department of Law Enforcement urging checks of vehicle inspection stickers and driver licenses to avoid court penalties.

Bonners Firm Wins Timber Sale Bid at Boundary Pulp Auction
Plumlee and Foust of Bonners Ferry Idaho were high bidders at a Kaniksu National Forest oral auction for the Boundary Pulp timber sale located 28 miles north of Bonners Ferry. They raised the appraised value from 4927.20 to 11400.00 for 310 MBF of sawlog and 2040 MBF of pulp. Competing bids came from Ervin Madsen and Patrick Doyle.
