Forest Service Plans Demonstration Of New Fire Simulator

A compact fire training simulator will be shown Monday morning January 12 at the Forest Service Aerial Fire Depot seven miles west of Missoula. William R. Moore says the device uses color transparencies sound recordings and simulated fire to train fire bosses sector bosses and other fire control team members. The demonstration at the Visitor Center building will host representatives from the Northern Region’s 16 National Forests state foresters offices and other federal firefighting groups. The simulator was developed by the Forest Service Electronics Center at Beltsville Maryland and Montana State University Bozeman under a Forest Service contract.

Idaho Highway Death Toll Reaches All Time High in 1969

Idaho State Police cite 329 highway fatalities in 1969 the highest total since records began. Kootenai County logged 30 deaths and Canyon County 28, as the state’s traffic tolls show years of fluctuation with 1968 at 276 and 1965 at 263.

Idaho Racing Commission Bill Seeks Restore Pay

The Idaho attorney general proposes restoring to commission members a $25 daily salary, a pay cut enacted in 1969 when the panel was renamed from committee to commission. Assistant AG Howard F. Manly prepared the bill, which also discusses returning about $1,000 in salaries paid since May 26.

On Bull Sale Deadline Set in Sandpoint

The Panhandle Registered Beef Sale in Sandpoint sets Friday January 9 as the entry deadline. Registration certificates must be filed with the County Agents Office in Sandpoint by then. A screening of animals will occur the week of January 12 by a committee from the Cattlemen's Association.
