Idaho Detour Plan for US 2 S H 200 Project Near Sandpoint
The Idaho Department of Highways announced Murphy Brothers Inc of Spokane began a 1.33 million dollar project on US 2 and SH 200 near Thama Rocks. Work includes planking alongside the Great Northern Railway, a 34 foot asphalt surface for 70 mph, a new 144 foot Johnson Creek bridge, and a partial detour open only 3:30 p.m. to 8:15 a.m. with daytime closures. Local traffic will use a detour road south of the Pend Oreille River.

Dale Wilcox Sentenced In Idaho Arson Case
Dale Wilcox was sentenced in District Court to five years in the Idaho Penitentiary for second degree arson connected to the Southside School fire last November. He had pled guilty earlier with a pre sentence investigation ordered. Mike Taylor, 16, faces sentencing on a first degree burglary charge from the same fire. Another juvenile remains under probate court pre sentence investigation.

Inquest Rules Deaths From Two Car Crash Near Kootenai
Bonner County coroner Barry Nelson reports the inquest found Mrs. Alice Carpenter and Mr. Frank Mauro died from accidental causes after a two car crash December 7 1969 two miles east of Kootenai. Carpenter died next day at Bonner General Hospital Mauro died December 30 in Spokane. Car driver was Eugene Carpenter of Newport and other car driver believed John MacKay of Spokane. Three witnesses plus Deputy Dave Hare and Harvey Biffle testified.
