Moose Invades Sandpoint Back Yard Near North Boyer

Mrs. George Roberson reports a large moose in her Sandpoint backyard around 3:00 PM yesterday. Tom Little captured twenty photos as the animal headed toward Schweitzer Basin, with witnesses recalling its untame quality and barnyard grazing before moving toward the woods.

Bonner County Fair Names Horse Show Committee

County Agent Ray Davis reports the Bonner County Fair Board formed a Horse Show Committee including Jim Wood Gene Balch Mrs James Jacketta W Racicot and Veldonna Osborn plus Bob Wood from the Fair Board The fair dates were set for August 27 28 and 29 with the Horse Show the preceding week the first committee meeting date pending.

Heart Fund Campaign Kicks Off Across Idaho Region

The 1970 Heart Fund drive begins with a 1 pm Thursday coffee hour in the Panhandle Room at Pastime Cafe. Mrs. Dennis Kelberg leads volunteers as campaign chair with Mrs. Ralph L. Chicks providing guidance in Bonner County. The goal is 1200 dollars, up from 1100 in 1969, to fund Idaho Heart Association programs. The kickoff includes Heart-Days-for-Business starting February 9, led by Mrs. Don Reach. The campaign peaks Feb 15 with 40 volunteers canvassing neighborhoods, ending Feb 22.

Water Content Below Average At Schweitzer

Snowpack at Schweitzer Basin measured January 30 shows below average water content. At 6100 feet the snow depth was 83 inches with 24.2 inches of water, versus 161 inches and 52 inches last year and 111 inches with 35.9 inches on average.

Dr Siemsen Attends Hawaii Surgery Course

Dr. Franz H. Siemsen, Sand Point physician, spent the past week in Hawaii attending the Phil Thorek post graduate course in surgery. The limited event accepts sixty doctors from the USA and covers advanced abdominal, breast and thyroid operations. Thorek is hailed as the United States’ outstanding medical lecturer, professor of surgery at the University of Chicago, and Cook County Hospital chief surgeon.

School Board Sets Special Meeting on Feb 4 at Sandpoint

The Board of Trustees for School District 82 will convene Wednesday night at 8 at Sandpoint Junior High School auditorium. Architect Bob Nelson of Coeur d Alene will present floor plans for New Farmin School expansion and discuss future plans for Southside School.
