Edward K. DeLong reports from Houston that Apollo 14's ascent lander battery showed a low voltage reading described as a cloud-on-the-horizon issue. Ground controllers weighed whether to alter the mission and possibly skip landing while astronauts slept through the concern.
James Brockway of Sandpoint County participated as the National Association of Counties Task Force on Public Lands Legislation endorses payments in lieu of taxes for Federally owned tax exempt lands. The policy calls for full property tax equivalency and direct federal allocations to local governments where lands sit, to be proposed to the NACO Board in April during Washington D C meetings.
Preparations are underway in Spokane for the 25th annual Columbia Empire Cattlemen's Clinic and Sale to be held Friday and Saturday at Stockland Union Stockyards. A membership meeting is set for Thursday at the Ridpath Hotel.
The Post Office department will observe Washington's Birthday on Monday February 15 with no city or rural carrier deliveries or window service. Normal service will resume Saturday and Sunday February 13 and 14, while holiday collections and distributions will apply to mail receipts and dispatches.
Three Sandpoint snowmobilers Har ult Davis and Paul Reno led AMF Ski Daddlers to sweep the 300cc and 340cc races at Libby Jaycees Snomobile Club event. Teddy Farmin John Schell Bruce Lines dominated 440cc class aboard Evinrudes amid 60 entrants.
The Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce Retail Merchants Committee announced a two day Washington's Birthday Sale on February 19 and 20. Don Rench said most Sandpoint businesses will participate with deeply reduced prices to boost weekend shopping. Bench noted the dates were chosen to align with weekend hours.
Sandpoint Jaycees announce seven semi finalists for the Outstanding Young Farmer Award to be presented at the Distinguished Service Awards Banquet on Saturday February 6 in the Pastime Banquet Room. Final judging will occur this week. other awards include Distinguished Service Award Outstanding Young Educator and Boss of the Year.
