Three Sandpoint residents were arrested yesterday and charged with possession of a controlled substance. Jeffery T. Munson and two juveniles faced the offense. Munson was released on own recognizance while the juveniles were turned over to their parents.
A Sandpoint woman Cheryl Ann Balison, 19, lost control along Highway 20 at milepost 31 and skidded into a left ditch facing opposite traffic. Damage was estimated at $700 with few injuries reported as conditions were icy.
Priest Lake Ridgerunners announce an oval snowmobile race at Nordman Oval track on January 2. Registration opens at 8 a.m. at the Nordman Club with entry fees 2 dollars for junior, 5 dollars stock, 15 dollars stock modified and super modified. The iced track should draw drivers from the Northwest as races run from about 10 a.m. through the afternoon.
The BOOST Fund raised $113.33 yesterday, bringing the Christmas Eve total to $2,901.33 for the Toys for Tots drive. Anonymous donors contributed $25, Bud and Jewel Benoit gave $15, M&J Food City added $25.33, K-2 Motel and Motel 6 donated $10 each, Farmin School fifth graders sent $7.50, and Stephanie Raser contributed $20.
The Bonner County Freedom to Work Committee formed this week promotes voluntary union membership and upholds individual right to join or not join a union. Executives Ross Derr Frank Findlay Jim Hagman Ed Hawkins Ed Nettleton Clarence Moody and Archie Yager coordinate, with Idaho Freedom to Work and National Right to Work backing the effort.
Pacific Power and Light reports a surge in electrical demand in the Sandpoint area due to rapid growth and more homes using electric heat. PP&L added 318 new customers in 11 months, with many new homes wired for electric heating. Washington Water Power pushes gas as a substitute while Northern Lights notes stability due to existing electric heating.
