Totem Carver Preserves Indian Lore in Wood Art
BeeStaff Writer Cindy Marquette profiles Delmar Wood, longtime Idaho resident and Air Force veteran, who carves totem poles inspired by Tsimshian and related tribes. He describes sourcing designs, materials, and the evolution of colors and tools from stone to metal as totem carving gained prominence in the 1800s. Wood creates poles four to twenty feet tall and has works displayed at local venues in Sandpoint.
