Water project cuts access along Woodland Drive in Sandpoint
Ditch digging and trenching for a federally funded Sandpoint water system upgrade along Woodland Drive blocked home access for about families. Materne Bros. Co. staff faced rain and a deep 12 to 14 foot trench to pass a water line under a gas line. Residents vented over lack of notice and damaged mail, fence, and telephone cables. City and contractor blamed communications gaps, pledging future block by block notices and improved coordination.
