Citizens Band REACT volunteers aid Idaho sheriff and police

Eight residents in Pend Oreille County formed a CB emergency team, REACT, to monitor channel 9. The group, chartered by REACT International, expanded to over 60 members aiding dispatch, reporting accidents, missing persons, and other incidents across Bonner County and adjacent areas.

Lions Club Toys for Tots Drive Nears Goal in 1977 Campaign

Eleven more donations push the Lions Club 1977 Toys for Tots effort toward 2000 dollars with a total of new gifts from anonymous donors and Lambda Chapter XP of Beta Sigma Phi along with American Legion Auxiliary and others. Additional gifts include 25 dollar contributions from multiple groups and 10 dollar donations from individuals. Cash donations toward the 5000 dollar goal are accepted at the Daily Bee office and toy repairable donations at City Hall station.

Land Board backs joint management of Lower Priest River

The State Land Board agreed to pursue joint management with the Forest Service for land along the Lower Priest River, allowing an interagency plan to be drafted and approved later. The board rejected Wild Scenic River classification for this lower reach while supporting it for the upper river. The action precedes final approval and includes several land and drilling permits in Idaho.

EPA orders sediment removal in Idaho river

The EPA Northwest regional office orders removal of sediment from the South Fork of the Clearwater River due to a road project. The action targets the Federal Highway Administration with contractors blamed for dirt and debris deposits between Golden and Elk Creek. Fire District Election Tuesday in Southside area

Residents of the Southside Sewer and Water District vote Tuesday on forming a Southside Fire Protection District with same boundaries. If approved, it becomes Bonner County third rural fire district amid recent deadly fires. Ballot measure plans a mill levy to fund the district. Polls open noon to 8 p.m. at Lakeshore Drive equipment shed.

Hospital District Hearing Called

The Pend Oreille Hospital District will hold a public hearing Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Bonner General Hospital cafeteria on its proposed 1977 78 budget and a property tax levy. The district seeks 164000 from general taxes and a four mill levy to fund operation maintenance new equipment and facilities.

Idaho Senate Pro Tem Declares Friday Short People's Day

Boise Friday found Phil Batt declaring himself governor for the day with a Short People's Day proclamation. The 5 foot 6 inch senator joked about height while discussing budget, floods, and a short legislative session as Gov. Evans was away.
