Idaho Cities Group Seeks Gas Tax Shift With Andrus
Idaho Association of Cities officials urged Gov Elect Cecil Andrus at a Boise luncheon to redirect highway funds. Ralph Wheeler said 70 percent goes to the State Highway Department, 25 percent to counties, and 4 percent to cities. He proposed a two cent gas tax on top for city road work. Wheeler said 24 percent of state driving occurs in cities and that legislators from larger cities must back the plan. Andrus pledged to help, noting meetings with lawmakers before the session.
