City plans to submit proposal to hire its own engineer to oversee streets water and wastewater systems. The plan outlines duties from budgeting and project administration to coordinating city facilities and attending meetings, arguing it would reduce reliance on consultants and meet state professional-engineer requirements.
Seventeen year old Kelley Gardner of Kootenai was injured during a sidehorse tumbling drill at Sandpoint High School. She tore 60 percent of neck ligaments after slipping from a spotters’ grip. She was treated at Bonner General Hospital then Deaconess Hospital in Spokane and returned to school with a neck brace. Doctors expect she may ski by January 10.
Idaho Department of Fish and Game officials say budget cuts can be avoided for the next six months if the economy stays stable and new programs are started cautiously. A. Kay Belnap, chief of administration, notes sufficient funds exist for the fiscal year 1977 as approved, after cutting about one million dollars from this year's 9.2 million. The department plans to seek authority to spend 9.4 million next year, with no further cuts expected unless the Fish and Game Commission sets new priorities.
UPI reports patrons fled the Ridpath Hotel rooftop restaurant as a fire erupted in an elevator motor room. About 40 evacuated Sunday night with no injuries as the fire remained in one electrical control panel and emergency halts stopped the elevators automatically.
Boise Postmaster Gilbert Hicks cautions shoppers to insure gifts for only actual value to avoid loss. He stresses buying insurance is optional, and emphasizes proper packaging legible labels and correct zip codes to ensure on time delivery during holidays.
Governor Cecil D. Andrus reappoints Franklin Jones of Boise to the Idaho Water Resources Board through January 1, 1981. Jones, a retired farmer and printer, has served since 1973 and is active in conservation groups. Hahn of Idaho Falls is named to the new Statewide Health Coordinating Council.
Police report two crashes near Sandpoint highlight a stuck accelerator causing a gate to bend and a rear end collision. Mabel Stearns and Berg Schmitt were involved in the parking lot incident with $1300 damage. separate crashes on US 2 and local streets produced $1250 and $4000+ damages with no injuries.
