Idaho students press faculty review as fees rise
University of Idaho students sent a resolution to the state board in Boise asking for a faculty review. Kenneth Marcy of Sandpoint backed a petition for a four student and three faculty committee to review faculty performance. The board sent the petition to a tenure policy committee. Student health fees at Idaho and Idaho State will rise next year, including a $1 per visit use fee at Idaho. The board will monitor use to decide if further increases are needed to pre pay expenses. Idaho State’s health service fees will be nominal to cover lab costs. Presidents warned that the 92.1 million general fund for higher education threatens budgets. U I President Ernest Hartung warned it may not be worth attending. ISU President William E. Davis noted many students cannot afford higher fees. Idaho Higher Education Director Milton Small warned freezing funds could add 200 to 300 dollars per semester. Roy Eiguren, UI Student Body President, said students oppose tuition and fee hikes. A closed session reportedly discussed school district reorganization with Allen Smith of the Idaho School Board Association. Local trustees plan regional meetings in December to discuss compromises. The board will continue its meeting today.
