Ruling Favors City Denying Sandpoint Restaurant Permit

Judge Dar Cogswell upheld the City of Sandpoint in denying Glen and Constenance Pusey a building permit for a smorgasbord style restaurant on Church Street across from the post office. The writ of mandamus was quashed as the city followed Ordinance 430 and Ordinance 480, with planning and zoning and council denial.

Injured Driver Verhei Involved In Traffic Crash

Verhei Injured in a 9:55 a.m. crash on U.S. 95 near Careywood after apparently dozing at the wheel. He was taken to Bonner General Hospital in satisfactory condition. A separate incident nearby: a Roundup Grocery truck overturned two miles west of Clark Fork around 2:14 a.m. with no injuries reported.

Evidence Motion Denied in Sandpoint High Case

A Kootenai man’s motion to suppress evidence from a May arrest for delivering a controlled substance was denied by First District Judge James G Towles. The court ruled no unreasonable search occurred and Brown voluntarily handed over marijuana during the SUV stop near Sandpoint High School.

BCEA Leader John Wylie Resigns During Bonner County Meeting

Bonner County teachers learned BCEA president and negotiating team head John Wylie resigned at the Panida Theatre in Sandpoint. He will stay on as negotiating head until contract talks with the School Board finish, handing leadership to vice president Kirby Maki.

Special Programs Planned At Bonner County Fair

Exchange student Glenn Murphy will present a Jamaica slide program in the photography exhibit tonight at 3 pm and tomorrow at 1 pm. The Ridge Riders 4H Club will demonstrate packing and outfitting a horse tonight at 6 pm in the indoor arena, followed by the fat stock sale at 7 pm. A second packing demonstration is set for Saturday at 1 30 pm before the draft horse judging.

Behrens Showcases Wood Carving At Bonner County Fair

Behrens from Sandpoint features pen knife nature and western history carvings at the Bonner County Fair. His works include a replica stage coach, old timer with lantern, Wheat Harvest 1890, Paul Bunyan, ships, and small bark animals. He uses white pine and a glue sawdust finish on a unique eagle.
