Bonner County Fair Sees More Exhibits and Busy Booths

Bonner County Fair officials report more display booths and varied exhibits this year despite fewer produce and flower entries due to wet weather. Open class baking and clothing rise while outside displays attract autos and tractors. Fat stock sale and 4 H style show shift to Friday and Saturday nights respectively with a wildlife display by the Bonner Sportsmen’s Association and a program beginning at 7:30 tonight.

Sandpoint Library Burglarized. cash stolen

Sandpoint-East Bonner County Library was burglarized late Tuesday or Wednesday. Between 20 and 30 dollars was taken from a metal box in a desk drawer. Entry was gained by breaking a window to the boiler room door and prying open an office door upstairs. No other items were disturbed.

Ranger District Seeks Applicants for Seasonal Positions

The Bonners Ferry Ranger District seeks applicants for survey aids GS 02 civil engineering technician GS 45 and forestry technician GS 04, totaling about 12 new posts plus 40 existing forestry aid GS 02 roles. Many positions remain unfilled, all for short term fall fieldwork. Applicants must be 18 by employment date.

The 46th annual Chamber of Commerce Installation and Awards Banquet will be held Friday October 22 at the Sandpoint Elks Club. A new First Citizen award will honor one man and one woman for civic service with nominations due by September 30.

Mayor calls meeting on LEAA grant to hire patrolmen

Sandpoint Mayor Les Brown calls a special city council meeting at 5 pm to decide applying for a Law Enforcement Assistance Administration grant. If approved, two police patrolmen and an additional vehicle would be funded. LEAA would cover 75 percent the first year, 50 percent the second, and 25 percent the third.

School Board Seeks Zone One Trustee

School District 82 votes to fill the unexpired term of Dr David Beeson who resigned to join the University of Nebraska. Zone one residents may submit petitions by 5 pm Sept 3 naming candidates for appointment, with letters directed to the board chairman.
