Douglas-Fir Beetle Epidemic Near Dworshak Dam
The Douglas-fir beetle has reached epidemic levels on state federal and private lands near Dworshak Dam on the North Fork of the Clearwater River northwest of Orofino. Forest Service entomologists assist Idaho officials and landowners using infrared aerial photography to gauge infestation and losses. The Missoula and Bitterroot valleys see peak pine butterfly flight and defoliation of ponderosa pines spreading toward Spokane and Missoula.
