Joyriding teen nabbed after car theft in Sandpoint

Police report a 14-year-old youth arrested at 1 am after Cherilyn DeLong of 920 Poplar reported her car stolen at 12:58 am. Officer Rocky Eveland said the vehicle was located at Fifth and Larch as he investigated.

Guthrie Calls Suspension A Political Sham In Bonner County

Deputy Guthrie and deputy Andrew Anderson were suspended indefinitely by interim Sheriff Dave Hare amid an inquiry. Guthrie, a Democratic candidate for Bonner County Sheriff, called the action a political sham and threatened a civil suit for damages. Idaho AG Wayne Kidwell said an independent investigator would be sent to Bonner County to probe the allegations.

Sandpoint Chamber Reevaluates Dues With Fair Share Plan

The Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce considers a Fair Share dues formula to set member payments based on space, investment, employees and business volume. Dues would range from 45 to 550 with caps, plus variations for professionals and educators. Ballots for director elections go out in about 10 days as the chamber gauges member reaction.

School District 82 Approves Basic Liability Policy

The board approved a general liability policy covering up to 500000 for bodily injury to a single person and up to 1 million for multiple injuries, while an excess limits policy was tabled pending bids. The district also funds contracting a nurse instead of a part time position and set procedures to fill the Beeson vacancy with petitions due September 3.

New York Man Moves to Idaho in Protest Against Bureaucracy

Richard Hutter, 37, and his family relocated from Red Hook New York to a 2.5 acre home near Sandpoint Idaho after 13 000 miles of travel. He denounced New Yorks bureaucratic labels and heavy planning rules as the reason for leaving. He chaired the Red Hook Town Planning Board and says he seeks less government and taxes with more local control in Idaho.
