An emergency Bonner County meeting adjourned the four day Bonner County Horse Show due to a horse influenza outbreak. A $1 veterinary inspection fee per horse was set for entry. A new date remains tentative with possible October 8 9 10 or 11.

In Manchester the BBC Northern Symphony Orchestra practised Paul Patterson's Symphonic Study No 2 but discordant sounds emerged after four hours as half the players performed a different piece. The composer called it an office error.

Farm Workers Eye Strike Near Caldwell Idaho

A group of Mexican American farm workers picketed multiple Caldwell area farms on Tuesday and voiced a demand for a minimum of two dollars per hour or twenty dollars per acre for thinning. Spokesman Oscar Guerrero warned of a county wide strike, with 300 workers gathering at a Caldwell labor camp to decide on wages.

Toys Project Now In Motion

Kirby Scribner, chairman of the Lions Club Toys For Toys project, notes the sale yard was a big success and thanks donors and shoppers. The drive begins for toys and asks for usable or repairable items, with dolls needing time to prepare for Christmas and dropoffs at Sandpoint’s Haviland Holzemer Enco station. A new workshop building is expected soon and volunteers are urged to contact Scribner or Mrsayne Hook.

Raynold J D Davis agricultural extension agent announces a carcass contest for adults on Thursday August 2 at 10 30 a m in the outside arena at the old Fairgrounds. Carcasses judged later at Goobys September 4 at 7 p m. Education feature invites interested livestock producers to attend.
