Fire crews from multiple districts battled a 3900 acre blaze northeast of Elk starting Wednesday when wind toppled a tree into power lines. Peak manpower exceeded 100 firefighters with 20 equipment units and borate bombers. 689 acres private timber and 193 state lands burned. control established Sunday afternoon.
Police report a late Friday or Saturday break in at Nelson’s TV Store. Burglars pried a south side window and removed a bar-lock from the west door to steal a Motorola 20 inch color TV a Sony 8 track recorder eight Motorola tape players totaling 1424.55 dollars. Fingerprints were lifted and are pending analysis as officers investigate the grand larceny.
A three year old stud horse was killed when struck by a car east of Hope on Star Highway 200 Sunday evening. The driver, Jean F. Rochling of Noxon Montana, said she was blinded by oncoming headlights and did not see the horse until it was in front of her. The horse belonged to Gerry Spade of Hope and was valued at 300 dollars. Vehicle damage was listed at 200 dollars.
