Panhandle Health Planning Council formed in Idaho
The Panhandle Comprehensive Health Planning Council held its organization meeting August 3 at Kootenai Memorial Hospital Don Adams presiding. Membership expanded to 45 representing five northern Idaho counties with five to nine members each and officers named including Sandpoint chairman and Coeur d Alene vice chairs. The council operates under the 1966 1967 Comprehensive Health Planning Act with Spokane County handling fiscal matters and plans surveys of health resources and future needs plus task force committees in environmental health facilities manpower and mental health.

Bears Pestering Campers At Priest Lake
Ida ho Fish and Game officials report a black bear problem near Priest Lake with one bear disposed and 15 relocated after repeated attempts to find food. Biologist Ray Rodgers from Coeur d Alene says scarce berries and insects due to a cold spring drive the bears toward towns. Officials moved bears to isolated areas and warn residents in the Panhandle to endure the hungry predators for about a week until berries ripen.

One Car Overturns Near Sandpoint. No Serious Injuries
A 1961 Ford overturned 2 1/2 miles north of Sandpoint injuring three lightly. Driver Leonard McGhee 66 and two passengers Bessie 66 and Roy 44 McGhee were treated for minor cuts. McGhee cited for inattentive driving after the crash at 70 mph. Damages about 900 dollars.

Priest River’s Kondo Dies After Long Public Service
Seattle notes a Priest River native, Kondo, who served in World War I with the U.S. Combat Army in Italy and later became Justice of the Peace there. He was city attorney and attorney for the Bonner Water and Sewer District, and a 1949 University of Michigan law graduate. Survived by wife Michi four daughters and his mother along with several siblings.
