Auto Crash Claims Life Of Sandpoint Man
A Baker Oregon accident Tuesday afternoon killed former Sandpoint resident Joseph Popplewell 29 as the rear wheel of his pickup came loose and the vehicle overturned. One passenger remains in critical condition. Popplewell home was in Troy Montana. he leaves a wife two daughters and his parents plus two brothers. Funeral set for Saturday August 7 at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel Bonners Ferry.

Kootenai Man Dies In Woods Mishap
A 22 year old Kootenai man died Tuesday morning after a logging accident north of Clark Fork. Larry Van Rossum was struck by a falling snag while hooking on the decking area for the Forest Service at Wellington Creek up Big Lightening. He was brought down by Gil Gibbs and pronounced dead on arrival at Sandpoint Ambulance. He had years of logging experience and studied at UIJC and the University of Idaho. He worked for Stevens Logging and Gibbs Logging of Dover since Monday.
