Public hearing on the proposed County Zoning Plan drew praise and protests at Community Hall. County officials and a 13 member planning committee led by Harold Anselmo and Swede Hietman defended the plan as protective and flexible, with a Forest Service representative endorsing the effort.
Doris L. Kenney Bonner County Auditor announced today that each candidate for county office must file a declaration of candidacy during the first seven days of May. Offices up for election include Auditor Assessor Treasurer Prosecuting Attorney Coroner County Commissioners from Districts 1 and 3 one State Senator two State Representatives Legislative Chairman and Precinct Committeeman for each of the 37 precincts.
Thirty three Spokane Chamber members joined Sandpoint peers for a Goodwill Tour breakfast in the Pastime Cafe Banquet room. The event featured a lilac bush presentation to Sandpoint vice president Harold Anderson and a pledge to plant it at the Sandpoint Chamber building. Cliff Carl entertained while Morris Ferry urged local support for the Spokane Indians and tied it to Sandpoint’s athletic history.

The District I PTA sponsored a panel on Student Rights during the Spring Conference in Priest River. Panelists from Sandpoint Coeur d Alene Bonners Ferry and Priest River discussed emotional health and student concerns including dress drinking drugs and grooming. District officers were elected for two year terms and a district workshop was planned for Coeur d Alene next September.
Bonner County Cooperative Federal Credit Union selects two delegates for the Idaho Credit Union League annual meeting in Boise. Mrs Walter Erickson secretary and Mrs Floyd Irish treasurer attend. Mr Irish also serves on the League board for North Idaho unions. A supervisory committee for 1970 71 is named with Mrs Leonard Powell chairing. retiring members are Mrs Walt Eldred and Mrs Henry Samuels.
County auditor Doris L Kenney announced the Priest Lake area special election result. The cemetery district proposal failed with 53 yes votes and 85 no votes.

Sandpoint merchants announce a three day K and K Dollar Days sale running Thursday through Saturday April 30 to May 2 to coincide with the opening of fishing season and the 25th annual Kamloops and Kokanee Week celebration.
Joe Rogers, 52, of 407 Michigan, Spokane, died Tuesday afternoon in a Spokane hospital. He owned Rogers Thrift Store in Sandpoint and was a WWII veteran with the 733rd Railroad Battalion. Survived by wife Merle, daughter Jo Anne, son Mike, four brothers and four sisters. Funeral services pending.
