Lori Oakes Chillingworth Joins Rockwell as Project Manager

Lori Oakes Chillingworth daughter of Myron and Mrs Oakes Sherwood Road has become project manager for Rockwell International Corporation North American Aircraft Operations at Palmdale. She heads the automatic fastening function for forward fuselage and cockpit sections on a Rockwell military contract aircraft. She is a San Marino High School graduate 1974 and earned engineering honors from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. She previously worked four years as senior manufacturing engineer in aircraft assembly at Lockheed California Company Burbank.

Kennedy Named Director of California Water Resources

Gov George Deukmeier appointed David N Kennedy to lead the California Department of Water Resources as the former director Hon Hokie stepped down in December. Kennedy, a Metropolitan Water District veteran, began as an engineer in 1968 and rose to assistant general manager in 1974 overseeing operations planning and contracts. He holds a civil engineering bachelor’s from UC Berkeley earned in 1969 and a master’s in 1982, with wife Barbary and three children.

McMorrow Named To Superior Board

James J McMorrow elected to the board of Superior Industries International Inc expanding the board from seven to eight members. McKenna Leads Surgical Oncology Society at Denver Meeting

Robert McKenna, a member and leader in the Society of Surgical Oncology, presided over the 4th annual meeting in Denver. He succeeds Dr Gerald Murphy as director of Rowell Park Memorial Institute and plans June retirement from USC Cancer Center after six years.

School Board to Seek Legal Opinion on Funding Plan

San Marino residents including Patrick McAdam propose a school financing assessment to be placed before voters. The board referred the idea to county council and the district Legal Advisory Committee for legality, noting a two thirds vote would be required. The plan envisions $108 per parcel and could boost revenues, addressing an $800,000 deficit for 1983-84. Memorable Fourth In Store, San Marino Parade Details

The San Marino Chamber of Commerce plans a city wide Independence Day celebration with a parade beginning at 4 pm Monday at San Marino Avenue and Huntington Drive. Participants will march west on Monterey Road, turn onto Virginia Road to reach Lacy Park for entertainment by the San Marino Dads Band under Michael Ash. Entries from clubs groups and individuals compete for awards from the chamber and San Marino Historical Society including best float and best antique or classic car. Officials Outline Conduct Rules For San Marino Festivities

Art Hansen Never Got Around To Golf

Art Hansen, a 90 year old San Marino resident and former stock clerk, becomes a San Gabriel Valley lawn bowling enthusiast after retirement. He plans to join U S and British players in three major ALBA tournaments in Southern California this fall, including San Diego and Irvine events, while AWLBA hosts a parallel women’s tour. Hansen recalls meeting Dr Donald Petit who encouraged lawn bowling and set up contact, as the sport gains American and international attention at venues like Santa Anita Bowling Green and Pasadena Lawn Bowling Club.
