Marion Grant Installed as Monterey Park Chamber Leader
Marion Grant was installed as president of the Monterey Park Chamber of Commerce at the 47th annual installa tion dinner dance on June 3. She works 19 years at Garfield Medical Center as an assistant administrator and has held numerous civic positions including past president of District No 12 LA County Medical Association Auxiliary and MERCI. She serves on boards of the West San Gabriel Valley YMCA and Monterey Park Girls and Boys Club, attends Red Cross Blood Services Committee, and holds roles in several local organizations. She and husband Dr G Leroy Grant Jr, a Monterey Park dentist, live on Lorain Road with their four sons.

Few Incidents Mark July Fourth Celebrations
Police and fire officials reported few incidents related to local Independence Day celebrations. The most serious involved a palm tree ignited by an illegal firework, controlled by San Marino firefighters with no damage. A Monterey Place resident may face assault with a deadly weapon after a resident allegedly chased a civil papers carrier, swinging a wooden bat and breaking a van’s rear window. district attorney will handle the case.

Independence Day Celebration Draws 9000 in Lacy Park
More than 9,000 people gathered in Lacy Park for San Marino's Independence Day events. Parade along Monterey Road featured antique and classic cars, a 1915 Ford Jitney bus entry by the San Marino Historical Society, and a decorated Toyota pickup entry. Police noted no incidents as Peggy Class of the chamber led a well organized day with entertainment by the San Marino Dads Band and Ms Kaye. A fireworks show ended the celebration.
