Mission District backs signal at Mission Los Robles corner

Residents of the Mission-Los Robles area form a safety committee and collect about 565 signatures to push for an automatic traffic signal after a June 9 accident involving a 5 year old boy. The council referred the petition to the highway committee while police paint crosswalks and issue citations. A traffic count study is planned and Ricky Huntington Hospital reports the boy improving.

Monterey Huntington Drive Site Acquired For Service Station

F M Vanderhoof acquired the corner lot at Huntington drive and Monterey road. Standard Oil plans a deluxe super service station there soon. The site fronts Huntington drive 106 feet and Monterey road 130 feet with a 20 foot alley to the rear.

Brent Ogden wins Charles E Carver award for leadership in athletics Hi Y and youth work while John Sherwin Carlquist earns Kiwanis Science Scholarship for plant science studies. Death Takes Loved San Marino Woman Lulu McGrath 85

Mrs. Lulu McGrath aged 85 died Sunday June 20 at her daughter’s home in Pasadena after years confined to her room. Rosary was recited at Wen dell P. Cabot & Sons Chapel and Requiem Mass held at St. Therese Church Alhambra. Interment Calvary Cemetery. San Marinan Heads L A Service Club

R Lyle Simpson of 981 Aston Road was chosen president to lead the Los Angeles Exchange club, succeeding W J H Lewis of the Merchants and Manufacturers Association. Playgrounds Open Monday With Registration Totals

San Marino starts its vacation recreation program with 246 children registered across Huntington School Valentine and Stoneman School playgrounds. Huntington 125 Valentine 82 Stoneman 39. Stop signs urged after Lorain Melville Duarte crash

John C. Merrill of 2650 Lorain road pressed for a stop sign at Lorain Melville and Duarte after his car collided with a Los Angeles driven vehicle driven by G L Nystrom. Both drivers escaped injury as vehicles were badly damaged and towed. Earlier Constance Conrad 18 of 764 La Mirada Avenue lost control turning South on Euclid at Mission and struck a lamp post.

Burkhart Attends Artists Reception in Los Angeles

T M Burkhart proprietor of Sar Marino's Music Album attended a reception for Artur Rubinstein and Eugenie Ormandy in Los Angeles. The event highlighted superb piano playing by Rubinstein and was partly broadcast over KECA.

Edwards to Lead San Marino Post No 239 Legion

Robert W. Edwards was named Commander of San Marino American Legion Post No. 239 at the group’s final meeting of the year on Tuesday June 8. Elected officers include William H. Sea Scout Day Luncheon With Kiwanis Guests at Harry Raymond's

San Marino Kiwanis hosted Sea Scout Ship Staghound crew members at a luncheon. Led by Mate John Alpine, crew included Lee Bolstad, Earl Mendenhall, David Morton, Donald White, Richard Burgess, and Morris Kirk, joined by Roy Bolsted, Sea Scout committeeman. Roswell T. Allison oversaw Sea Scout activities. Dr. William R. Irwin introduced accordionist Thomas Pedrini and presented three pupils. Leo H. Hepp, Kiwanis president, presided.

Auto crash injures Yamashita and Mann

Bob Bergstrom and Roger Mann were involved in a curb jumping collision on Lorain road last Friday. Kozo Yamashita suffered a fractured left rib and Roger Mann a facial laceration, while Bergstrom was not injured. both were taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital by city ambulance.

Ferguson Named Vice Consul at Rio de Janeiro

Edward Bruce Ferguson formerly served as vice consul at Pernambuco and is transferred to Rio de Janeiro in the same role. Born in Hollywood he holds an A B from the University of California and pursued graduate work at George Washington University and the American Institute for Foreign Trade. Before joining the foreign service in 1947 he served in the U S Navy and in 1945 married Miss Katherine Kistner of this city.

Bradman Honored At BMI Graduation Exercises

Brigadier General Frederic L. Bradman USMC retired was honored at the Bordentown Military Institute in Bordentown New Jersey during the 63rd commencement exercises on Tuesday June 8.
