Mr and Mrs Rolo Westcott of 425 Winthrop Road were critically injured Tuesday in Atlantic City Iowa while returning home from a trip east. Their car collided with a truck driven by Roy Dyer of Lincoln Nebraska on a slick pavement authorities said. Their younger son Rouen flew east to be with them while Marshall traveled to Iowa to join them.
The San Marino Garden Club held a June meeting in Mrs J T Whittemore’s garden where Mrs Ken Hodgman read a complete initiation poem in verse. Officers received vegetable corsages while Miss Beatrice Williams spoke on outdoor living pools and garden design. About seventy members attended with punch and sandwiches served.
Light turnout marked the San Marino school board election last Friday with incumbent Dr. E. H. Morrissey receiving 25 votes.
The San Marino City Council held a routine meeting detailing the proposed sewer district along Granada Avenue Huntington Drive and surrounding streets replacing cesspools with sewers. A gas franchise for the city was granted and a health issue report on Granada Wash was deferred to the next meeting pending private property owner reactions.
Vernon B. French of Los Angeles was fined 100 dollars and given a 90 day suspended jail term for a Huntington Drive collision. McCullough of Monrovia drove the other car, with three passengers. French faced no injuries. sentence suspended on six months probation with no intoxication or further driving.
The San Marino American Legion Post 239 calls for stores to close on Decoration Day and other holidays. A special committee, including Dr George Ringstrom, H A Armstrong and Stanley Arndt, reports most merchants favor closing if all join. The group aims to enlist civic and welfare organizations to support the effort.
The local Night Ball Team lost 9 to 4 to the Van Vorst Company nine Tuesday night. The visitors performed better, though the game was well played. Home lineup included Callahan catcher and Vaughn at pitcher among others. Next week’s game features the San Gabriel All Stars.

Luncheon served under Mrs Arthur Morse hospitality chair assisted by Mrs E P Cheverton. Afternoon includes tennis swimming and bridge at the Bradford pool under a large refreshment committee.
Bruce Findlay will deliver the commencement address for the thirtieth annual South Pasadena Senior High School exercises on Thursday at 4 40 p m. The 259 graduates, the largest in school history, will receive diplomas outside the new modernized campus amid ivy removal and a three-way valedictorian change with three speakers Elza Mowry Larry Thompson and Emily Harvey.
The San Marino Playground Commission reminds parents the free summer program runs weekdays from June 22 to July 31, 9 to 12, with four instructors supervising five activity areas including dancing dramatics handicraft shop work and sports plus special events and a closing day pageant.
One of the largest graduating classes in Huntington School history will receive diplomas from School Board president K. L. Carver at 2:30 p m Wednesday June 17 in the new auditorium. Forty three students on stage with attire and programs tied to favorite characters from good fiction. American Legion Award presented by W G Paul. In San Marino on Tuesday night forty local merchants and residents formed the San Marino Business Association to encourage trading at home. Ellsworth K. Anderson became president after a brief discussion with H. Stanley Bent and a note on South Pasadena’s merchant group. The meeting, at City Hall, set a next gathering for Monday, July 6.
Louise Liebhardt writes a new weekly Mirror feature in the Tribune selecting three or four standout poems from current poetry magazines. The column appears on the theater and feature page and serves as a modern verse nucleus for scrapbook collectors.
On June 8 1936 in the City Hall Court Room San Marino formed a Woman's Club. Mrs Charles Oscar Cornwell was chosen president and sixty charter members joined. Officers named include Mrs Clark Bell first vice president Mrs Hector McNeil second vice president and Mrs Herbert D Ivey treasurer. A board meeting was planned for 1400 Old Mill Road to complete the organization and invite new members paying $10 annual dues to Mrs Ivey.
San Marino veterans will receive government bonds by mail on June 16. Delivery requires known addressees or known intermediaries. cashing occurs at the certifying unit in Pasadena's Old Odd Fellows Hall. Identification issues and surrender procedures are outlined by the American Legion and Pasadena Post Office, with help available from John G. Alpine and local offices. about 5000 bonds estimated for the Pasafiena area, average value about $500 each.
