San Marino's new $65,000 outdoor pool at San Marino High School faces delays as a string of bad weekends extends into May. The facility plans weekend operations through June 20 with free classes and Red Cross lifeguard instruction starting June 20.
The San Marino Rotary Club hosts its annual Dinner Dance Demotion party honoring President Monroe Loy and past officers Saturday June 18 in Eaton's Santa Anita Ranch private dining room. Jack Howell's quartet provides dinner music and entertainment with a 6:30 p.m. fellowship hour and 7:30 p.m. steak dinner.
Recreation officials and the San Marino Board of Education agreed that San Marino High School should not be used as a TAC canteen. The request caused a two week delay and officials said it would not be feasible now, though TAC will continue planning teenage activities for the next term.

San Marino High School hosts an essay contest on How to Spend Leisure Time with 511 entries submitted by local students. Entries are anonymous and graded for sincerity and coherence, with winners to be announced at a June 7 assembly.
More than one hundred San Marino High School athletes received letter awards at the third annual Spring Athletic Banquet in the school auditorium. Coaches from basketball baseball track tennis and swimming presented letters and certificates as Jess Hill USC head coach addressed fathers and sons about athletic discipline.
Theodore William Cornforth manual arts teacher at Huntington school died last Friday May 27 after a brief illness at Bella Vista hospital. Funeral services were held May 31 at Calvary Baptist church Puente with Rev. G Earle Rosenberger officiating. Interment at Rose Hills Memorial Park Baldwin Park Funeral Home handled arrangements. He was born in Seward Oklahoma and lived in California 13 years nine in Puente. Survived by wife Bernice M three children Teddy Sandra Timmy father Charles Cornforth Seward four brothers Richard Seward Louis Oklahoma City Lawrence Edmond and James Pomona.
Tru-Safe Company of Los Angeles will permanently install 1008 football seats on the south side of San Marino High School field this summer. The bid is $5,615.70 and includes additional stairways. Seats are currently located on the north side.
San Marino Unified School District board and Chapman Woods residents discussed annexing 16 houses and a vacant lot between California and Lombardy west of Eaton Wash. Residents noted average property value around 9,952.50 and 22 children, two under school age. A Bozeman Montana native, Ellis graduated from Montana State College in 1911 and held multiple GE posts in Los Angeles before becoming district manager. He resides in San Marino with his wife Cora and has one married daughter.
Mayor Corsonwide proclaims June 1955 as City of Hope Month in San Marino and urges citizens to support the humanitarian institution’s free care, research, and expanded services for cancer tuberculosis leukemia and heart disease.
City officials plan to ask Los Angeles County for a 90 day extension to study the ramifications of a July 1 order imposing a death sentence for single chamber backyard incinerators in San Marinans. City Manager C E Chick Martin said he will urge council members to request the extension.

Architectural Concrete lauds its traditional Californian style with open plan bay windows and unpierced walls while a feature in The Pioneer highlights a $235 800 library with floor plan and eight pictures. Funeral services for George A. Philbrick of Sherwood Road were held Wednesday. he is survived by Stella Mossman Philbrick and a daughter and four grandchildren.
Mrs. Sue Urth Irwin of the San Marino-South Pasadena Soroptimist club was named chairwoman of the June 11 12 City of Hope Telethon in San Marino to raise funds for the National Medical Center in Duarte. The 17 hour event drew scores of Soroptimist members and volunteers to support cancer leukemia TB and operable heart disease research and treatment. Irwin urged humanitarian groups and individuals to participate on Hope Sunday June 12 and to contact her for volunteer hours.
