Fireworks Ban Recanted by City Council
Fireworks displays were put back on the agenda after a previous ban was overturned. Playland operator Jimmy Johnson had asked the city to permit a July 4 display and a September 5 event. The council rejected the request by a 72 vote with Henry Gonzalez and Roy Baines opposing. Earlier refusals cited danger to nearby residences, and the latest approval requires the display to run under stated limitations.
