The San Antonio school board unanimously approved $3,515,000 of the $17,000,000 improvements bond issue. Other projects include an elementary junior school at Nebraska and Rice costing 425,000, Lanier High auditorium 300,000, Brackenridge gym 180,000, and Collins Garden cafeteria. The first bond sale is planned for August with about nine million of the total released in the first year.
Pittsburgh dispatch reports two more of the big six steel producers lined up their top negotiators as the CIO United Steel Workers press for a wage increase. USW leader David J McDonald directs all talks while U S Steel, Youngstown Sheet & Tube, and Jones Laughlin face the union demands. The 600,000 members earn $2.23 an hour on average under the current two year contract. Talks focus on wages only and a June 30 strike deadline looms if talks fail.
