Roosevelt Aims Petroleum Regulation Amendment
President Roosevelt urged Congress to attach a new section to the national industrial recovery bill. The proposed section would authorize the president to regulate oil industry codes, prevent price and production abuses, and control interstate movements of petroleum and products to align with state and federal laws. The measure seeks to replace a 40 page interior department draft.

Washington says the average potency of legal beer now runs 28 or 29 percent with production about half pre prohibition. Demand stays strong and draught beer should fall in price as more breweries come on line. Dr. James M. Doran notes improvements after eight weeks under 3.2 percent beer law. 264 brewers remain, mostly large plants, producing about half of pre prohibition output. Wisconsin leads with 47 permits, followed by Pennsylvania 42 and New York 36.
