Telephone ruling on Bell motion in rate case delayed

Federal Judge Edwin R. Holmes has not issued a decision on Southwestern Bell Telephone's motion for a new trial and rehearing after a telephone hearing. City counsel said a ruling is expected in two to three weeks or possibly a month, with the decision to be filed with the federal district clerk. The hearing followed an adverse verdict for the city in the long rate dispute.

Denison Loses His Final Appeal

AUSTIN May 21 Frank L Denison of Temple who sought to retain his appointment by Governor Miriam A Feruso as chairman of the Texas highway commission lost his appeal to the supreme court. The third court of civil appeals recently affirmed the Navi county district court ruling that Denison was not entitled to the office because the state senate had not confirmed his appointment by a two thirds vote.

Theft Pleas Bring Day in County Jail

Four pleas of guilty to charges of theft after $50 were entered in County Court on Wednesday. Julian Funcom and Leopoldo Robleds were fined $5 and costs and sentenced to one day in jail after pleading guilty to theft of clothing from Francisco Guerra. L. Lozang pleaded guilty to theft of 84 baskets valued at 7M cents from Richard Verscheiden and was fined $5 and costs. Alfonso Yorrer was fined $5 and costs after pleading guilty to theft of a pair of shoes worth $5 from Frank Orasco.

Stolen clothing recovered in Jourdanton burglary case

Detectives J F Leonard H C Rhodes and Deputy Sheriff R B Ferguson arrested a woman in San Antonio. The clothing packed in suitcases valued about 100 dollars. She is said to be wife of one of two Mexicans held on burglary charges. She and two children were taken to Jourdanton by Ferguson.
