Elevators and aerial craft pace limits across Texas

The article notes Smith-Young and Nix and Alamo National Bank elevators in San Antonio with speeds estimated around 300 feet per minute, and claims Gulf Building in Houston as the fastest Texas elevator. It cites P. J. Cunningham of Otle Elevator Co. and contrasts with New York’s Empire State Building 1200 feet per minute. It discusses hoists and escalator trends, noting Texans’ lukewarm view of escalators and a forthcoming New York City building with escalators for heavy traffic. It also follows Harry Williams and Jimmy Weddell, Louisiana flyers, returning from New Orleans to discuss new ships, speeds, and complications from airship projects and a public photograph incident.
