Miami February 16 INS Mayor Anton J. Cermak of Chicago gravely wounded in an assassination attempt on President elect Franklin D Roosevelt. Roosevelt arrived at Jackson Memorial Hospital to visit, while suspect Giuseppe Zanagari faced police scrutiny. Mrs Gill, wife of a utility official, was critically injured. Roosevelt’s condition deemed miraculously stable and he continued to Bay Front Park for his farewell.
Washington January 1 Speaker John N Garner said he would be inaugurated as vice president on March 4 and regarded much of the inaugural pageantry as a side show. He emphasized the priority is to be sworn in to get to work, and noted he would wear a white top hat if required, though he rarely wears one.

Tracks led officers to a point southeast of town as residents aid the search amid fears of possible lynching if the suspects are captured. Marshall, burned severely, reported last night that he believed the attackers were dunk.
