Farmers in Hidalgo form militia to defend prices
In Weslaco on February 7 militant Hidalgo farmers organized into a volunteer corps with captains and lieutenants to enforce price minimums. They plan to picket railways and roads, elect commanders, and place pickets by Thursday or Friday, aiming to halt vegetables leaving the area until prices meet six dollars per ton for cabbage and twenty cents per bush for carrots and beets.
