Council weighs 317500 capital improvements for Saline

An Ayres Lewis Norris Meade report urges immediate Saline water and sewer upgrades totaling 317500 with MEHA village location in question. It calls for a new well elevated tank 12 and 10 inch mains, trunk sewers, and sewage plant expansion to support growth up to 6000 residents, plus financing options and potential federal grants.

St Elizabeth Church Plans Beef Dinner

St Elizabeth Catholic Church Tecumseh sponsors its ninth annual roast beef dinner on Sunday September 16 from 1130 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the church School auditorium co chaired by Mr and Mrs John McVay. Last year the event drew 1180 people from the local area and nearby Michigan and Ohio. Betsy Burkhart underwent emergency appendectomy at Saline Community Hospital Saturday night.

Scooter Rider Injured and Ticketed in City Collision

Larry Telford of 6564 E Michigan Ave was treated at Saline Community Hospital for cuts and bruises after colliding with Glen Bihlmeyer’s car on E Michigan Ave at State Rd. Police say Telford turned in front of the car and he was ticketed for failing to yield the right of way.

Enrollment at Saline Elementary totals 684 students, announced by a school spokesman. The breakdown lists 5 in special education, 137 kindergartners, 151 first graders, 131 second graders, 146 third graders, and 114 fourth graders.

Saline area rejects 3.85 mill school tax in June vote

Saline voters turn out heavily and reject the Board of Education request for a 3.85 mill operating tax. With 824 ballots, 336 yes and 486 no, prompting a second election set for September 14 at the Intermediate School with polls 8 am to 8 pm.

New Saline telephone directories to debut in December switch area listings to a numeric system. General Telephone Co announces plastic chair components from American Seating Co include blow molded air cushioned seats. A steel 80 by 168 foot building will replace the old E. Bennett Street warehouse, freeing space for plant expansion.
