Washtenaw Jaycees Host Snowmobile Show and Drags
Washtenaw County hosts its first snowmobile show and drag race October 21 and 22 at the Farm Council Grounds. Proceeds aid Saline Jaycees projects including the Halloween party. Admission is $1 for ages over 12. races start at 2 p.m. daily.

Social Security payments rise 20 percent in 1973
Saline and Washtenaw County beneficiaries will receive higher checks next month as a 20 percent Social Security increase takes effect. In Michigan 1.129 million beneficiaries will share 2.196 billion dollars in 1973. first checks with the raise go to Saline on Oct 3.

Eight Ypsilanti State Hospital Patients Qualify to Vote
Based on a oral opinion by Washtenaw Circuit Judge Campbell, eight York Township residents from Ypsilanti State Hospital qualified to vote in the August primary. More than 300 residents have registered, with several attending a candidate fair in Ann Arbor. The clerk has begun teaching new electors machine use ahead of the election.

Saline Fair Booth Highlights Drunk-Driving Risks
About 156 visitors at the Saline Community Fair learned how alcohol affects driving risk at an ASAP information booth. A drink-drive calculator showed safe limits for different weights and drinking periods, with risk rising from .05 to .15 BAC. Booth staff from the County Health Department and University of Michigan’s HSR I explained programs and offered mail requests for personalized prescriptions.
