Preliminary 1970 census data show Saline’s population more than doubled in the 1960s, rising from 2 334 to 4 770, a 104.4 percent increase. Other fast growers include Belleville Utica Southfield Troy Clariston and Warren. Detroit declined by 10.6 percent while nearby Washtenaw County towns all grew.

Saline to Issue $570,000 Sewage Bonds for Plant Expansion
Attorney General Frank J. Kelley announced the Municipal Finance Commission approved 570000 General Obligation Sewage Disposal System Bonds Series I for the City of Saline in Washtenaw County. Proceeds will fund expansion and modernization of the sanitary plant including phosphate removal and land attachments. The City may levy taxes to cover principal and interest. Other commission members are Allison Green and John W. Porter. Bonds will be sold at a special Council meeting Monday night, Nov. 30.
