UF Drive Surpasses Goal With 74728.05 Raised

Saline Area UF drive workers celebrated a victory ball after surpassing the $71,190 goal with $74,828.05 in contributions, about 105.1 percent. Local Ford employees led with $62,714.80, PCS raised about $1,300, and out of town corporations contributed $8,000.

Speeder Chased Thefts Reported In Saline

A 16 year old Saline youth tried to flee after a traffic stop for speeding and was caught on Mills Rd near McKay. A 21 year old Saline driver with two Warren warrants was arrested after a routine stop. Stolen items include tools and a $500 AM FM stereo from a locked van on Valley Circle Dr. Also reported: 1977 license plates stolen from another Valley Circle resident. Ongoing investigation into a Saline Hospital employee’s purse and $40. Window damage to a 1964 Mustang at Community Ford and a Dearborn Heights car at the Ford plant. A hit and run damaged a Steel Dodge lot light pole by $175. Doors and wheels found in a wooded area are suspected as stolen. Two 13 year olds were released to parents after a disturbance. Police weigh four mag wheels and a 20 inch boy’s bicycle as possible stolen items.

Saline Garbage Pick-Ups Move Ahead of Thanksgiving

Saline residents with Thursday and Friday pickups should bundle bags and put out cans early next week. DPW will run end-of-week routes on Wednesday November 23 due to Thanksgiving, and the Wednesday route will shift to Tuesday November 22. City Hall will close all day Thursday and Friday.

The newspaper will publish on Tuesday next week to ensure delivery before Thanksgiving. Display ads must arrive by noon Monday and classified ads by 5 p.m. that day. News tips should be phoned or handed in Thursday to Saturday. Bowling news due by 10 a.m. Monday this week, with late stories accepted all day Monday.

Saline Fair Association reelects Gall as president and manager

Albert Gall was reelected president and manager of the Saline Fair Association at the annual meeting. Donald Drake became vice president, Rose Farrell recording secretary, Ray Girbach financial secretary, and Kenneth Taylor assistant manager for another year. New treasurer Leon Eisemann, with Webb Harwood as second assistant, was named to oversee finances. Committees for finance budget, fair book, and nominating were formed. Treasurers report showed almost $60,000 gross for 1977 with a $6,675 net. state aid may lift the total to $15,000 or more next spring.

Thiokol Hoover merger talks terminated after discussions

Thiokol chairman R. E. Davis and Hoover Ball and Bearing chief executive John F. Daly announced in November that merger discussions are terminated. Earlier on October 11, 1977, an in principle merger was announced, but subsequent events led to the mutual decision to end talks.
