Hubert Beach Wins Saline Mayor Race In Heavy Balloting
Hubert Beach was elected mayor for a two year term starting January 1 1971 after 733 votes to 637 for Bliss Charles. Three council seats went to Waldo Gross Kenneth Rogers and Lee Decker, with Howard and Briegel also earning notable votes in a dense Saline election. A parking ban proposal failed by 828 to 559, and Beach won the mayoral raise from 300 to 600 by 965 to 403.

Forged UAW Local 564 Checks Under Probe in Saline
Saline Police investigate alleged forgery of four checks drawn on UAW CIO Local 564. The checks were cashed at a Saline tavern and two banks including Saline Sayings Bank and Ypsilanti Savings Bank. A spokesperson said an arrest warrant was not issued last week and the checks are still undergoing eclipse lab tests.

Archbishop Dearden Leads Dedication of New St Andrew Church
John Cardinal Dearden of Detroit presided at the dedicatory service for the new St Andrew Church. Rev Joseph Noelke and Rev William King assisted while altar boys Pat Gill and others attended. The ceremony included a blessing of the four walls and a buffet luncheon. Evening and morning Masses filled the 500-seat church.
