Spring Festival music and arts plans at Saline High School

Final plans for the Spring Arts Festival at Saline High School this weekend May 17 to 19 include three days of concerts recitals displays and exhibits. More than 650 students participate with a Friday and Saturday 8 pm dance recital and a Sunday band and chorus concert. Proceeds go to the Interlochen trip fund. Admissions 75 cents adults 50 cents students.

Saline to Host Watervliet Pair Monday

Saline will host Watervliet Mayor Robert E. Flaherty and wife on Monday with Watervliet officials visiting Saline for Mayor's Exchange Day. The visitors arrive about 9 30 am for a tour of Saline industries facilities schools hospital subdivisions and a modern dairy farm.

Rubbish Pickup Set Thursday and Friday

Annual cleanup kick off in Michigan Week with free rubbish collection on Thursday for areas north of Michigan Avenue and on Friday for the south side. Residents should separate brush into distinct piles.

Collision Here Injures Three

Three people were slightly injured in a two car collision on 8 Ann Arbor street near a new subdivision entrance. Richard D. Kimball, 31, of Haslett, was treated for a cut above his right eye. Gene Stull and her two year old son Scott suffered bruises and a minor eye bump respectively.

Martin Launches Michigan Jaycees Campaign at State Convention

Saline Jaycees campaign in Lansing for Merritt Martin for Michigan Jaycees president. A large volunteer effort uses posters, a Korn Krib truck, hospitality rooms, eight walkie talkies, and a Friday parade with a 6 30 p.m. Martin entry. Saturday features awards, election, banquet with Gov. Romney, and an inaugural ball.

Reappraisal Starts in Pittsfield Township

A complete reappraisal of all Pittsfield township property has begun to equalize tax burdens. Five appraisers from United Appraisal Co. are at work, including a farm and two residential specialists. A May 28 meeting will inform residents and answer questions.

Saline Girl Leads High School Cast in John Brown's Body

Norah Bixby of Saline stars as a lead in University High School Ann Arbor's verse drama John Brown's Body. The six-actor play features a 65 voice chorus and is directed by Ste phen Vincent Benet. The opening Friday night and a repeat performance Saturday evening draw Salinians and local families.

Firemen Withdraw Offer on Fire Hall

Saline Volunteer Fire Department members pulled their offer to build a new fire hall with volunteer labor if the city supplied materials. President Bob Russell said the offer was withdrawn with regret because the city lacked funds. Materials were estimated at $10,000 with all labor donated by firefighters and local contractors.

School Area Valuation Up By 686 472

The county equalized valuation for the school district rose to 28,568,347 from 27,881,875, a gain of 686,472. Superintendent Leo Jensen calls the rise larger than expected and says budget relief depends on Tax Allocation Board decisions. board meets Monday.

Former Saline Man Killed In Auto Crash

Donald Schultz, 48, longtime Saline resident, died in a two car crash near Bay City on Tuesday while about to start a tavern lunchroom business. He is survived by his wife Charline, three sons, two daughters, two grandchildren, and two brothers. Funeral services will be held Saturday at Keelin Hosmer Funeral Home in Dexter with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Saline.
