Saline High Band Earns Excellent Rating at State Festival
Saline High School Band directed by Arthur Katterjohn earned a second division Excellent rating at the State Band Festival in Mason. Eleven bands competed, with three earning first division and ten second division. Audience comments praised precision and contrast while noting some weak solo spots.

U M Student Case Postponed
William Alderisio an 18 year old University of Michigan student arrested after local children said he attempted to lure them into his car. The examination in Municipal Court Ann Arbor was postponed with no new date set. Alderisio of Birmingham faces three counts including accosting attempting to procure an act of gross indecency and indecent exposure.

Martin Named National JC Director
G Merritt Martin was elected a national Junior Chamber of Commerce director for Michigan Region B at a district regional meeting in Ann Arbor. Region B covers 22 Jaycee clubs in three districts across five counties and communities downstream from Detroit. Martin, unopposed, will visit clubs, oversee state vice presidents, join finance and executive committees, and attend the 1963 64 planning meeting at Tulsa. Saline will host the district softball tournament for the second year, drawing about 90 Jaycees and families in early summer.

Rain Lessens Grassfire Hazard for Saline Fire Dept
Heavy rain and light early week drizzle cut both grass fire danger and weekly runs for the Saline Fire Department. The department responded to only two grass fires, one on Thursday and one on Saturday.

Annual School Carnival Sets Friday Night
The fourth annual Elementary-Intermediate School Carnival runs 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Elementary School. Tickets go on sale 8:30 to 8:50 a.m. Thursday and Friday at both schools and at the door. Class booths feature fish pond car races balloons bake sales cotton candy and more. Marinus Hinkle chairs the Elementary portion. Mrs. John Blinn and Mrs. Henry Helle lead Intermediate projects including ticketing and the coffee cake and pie concession. Mrs. Willard Hertler handles publicity. There will be no talent show this year.

Chelsea Bulldogs Rout Hornets In Saline Track Duel
Chelsea defeated Saline 59 50 at Saline athletic field in a gripping dual meet as seven records fell or tied. Larry Cattell led Chelsea with a 20 14 broad jump and 11 9 pole vault while Dave McLaughlin set a 47114 shot put and the Chelsea relay clocked 1 38. Roosevelt also beat Saline 59 50 as Howard Schrader strained his back and could miss the Dexter A high Saline triangle in Ann Arbor.

Saline varsity defeated Ypsilanti Roosevelt 12 to 3 while the junior varsity edged Chelsea 6 to 5. Dick Leidheiser struck out 11 in two Hornets outings and hit a batter three times in a quirky matchup. Gary Niethammer and others contributed multiple hits. Roosevelt scored all unearned runs in the fourth. City notices advise reporting uncollected garbage before noon and note summer twice weekly pickups after June.

Storms Leave Light Damage Across Saline Michigan
Violent storms in Michigan eased over Saline area with light damage reported. A lightning strike struck a tree on Gerald Grass property on Waterworks Rd, blowing it apart and scattering chips. City Hall suffered a downstairs door loss plus shingles and TV antennaes blown off, and two truckloads of branches cleared by DPW. Insurance claims were numerous but minor.

Milton Hartman named chairman of the city Recreation Commission replacing Gerald Coe who resigned after five years. Clyde Griffin becomes treasurer Arlene Thoss remains secretary. The program grew from a 600 dollar budget to about 5000 yearly serving nearly 1000 participants with 50 volunteers including paid staff for seven week periods.

A reception for new High School room mothers will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the all purpose room at the school. Two Local Homes Entered and Robbed Saturday Evening
A thief entered two local homes while occupants were away. At 303 BE Michigan Ave the thief cut a locked screen door and took a small amount of change. At 217 Detroit St the thief unlocked a door, took $25, and wet a bed. Police note similar unlocked-house thefts countywide with jewelry taken in one case.
