Saline High Band Wins State Festival With Top Score

Saline High School Band, 74 members, earned First Division rating and the highest combined scores at the State Band Festival in Battle Creek among 19 Class B bands. Judges praised concert and sight reading. comments ranged from very enthusiastic to critical notes on occasional overblowing and precision lapses. Adults accompanying the band included multiple family members and Art Katterjohn as director. special guests included Charlie Kirsch and Russ Reed.

Saline Band Schedules May Concerts and Events

The Saline school bands announce a Spring Formal Band Concert at 4 p.m. on May 19 featuring the Senior High Concert Band the Junior High Concert Band and the High School Mixed Chorus to raise funds for the Interlochen trip. An Intermediate School Band Concert is set for 7 30 p.m. on May 28 with multiple grade bands performing no admission charge. A Mary Lou Gall dance recital May 17 and 18 supports the same fund and the Saline Band Parents club will elect officers after the May 28 concert.

Woman's Club Announces Tea and Luncheon Events

Saline Woman's Club outlines two annual affairs the Senior Girls Tea set for 1 to 3 p m on Tuesday May 7 at Mrs Robert Smith 209 Russell St and the Spring Luncheon at 12 30 p m on Tuesday May 14 at Webers Restaurant Ann Arbor Reservations via Mrs Charles Kern chair by May 11.

Buses Safe as Bridges Stand Under Weight Rumor

Local officials debunk rumors that buses would overload bridges on routes. Bus no 3, a nine ton 66 passenger vehicle, is fine with 50 students aboard. Bridges on the route carry at least six to twelve tons, and every axle supports six tons, ensuring safe passage.

Tornado Watch Gear Let by Saline Auxiliary Police

CD teams manned by the Saline Auxiliary Police with Civil Defense watched Monday night as severe storm warnings were issued. About 20 volunteers were trained, with three called to duty from 11 pm to 2 am. They practiced using radios, maps, and a new penetrator PA system, and will post two miles outside the city to relay alerts via fire sirens.

Eastern Michigan University will honor an EMU student and mother of five at the 15th annual Honors Convocation in Pease Auditorium on May 8. Mrs. Alton Wahl of Saline is majoring in art and mathematics, a second year student who took night classes first year and now attends two days weekly.
