Saline voters to decide high school bond and natatorium

Fire Hall Bids Sought and City Appoints New Officials

Saline city council filled four appointive posts after weeks of searching and welcomed three volunteers. A first time female board member was named to the Board of Review, while other appointments include the Cemetery Board of Appeals and Planning Commission. Bids for the new fire hall will be opened April 3 with construction planned for late April.

Electrician dies in fall from cherry picker at Ford plant

Russell Thomas Crocker a 59 year old Ypsilanti electrician and motel owner died after being pitched from a cherry picker at the Ford Motor Co plant parking lot. A stabilizer chain broke and another worker was also dumped out but escaped injury. Crocker leaves a wife two daughters two sons and several siblings. Funeral services set for Friday at Moore Funeral Home.

Three Men Sentenced in Arson Plot Case

Three Berkley men Phillip Rosen Seymore Fryman and Madison Heights resident Bobby Lewis were sentenced in Circuit Court to five years probation fines of 100 and costs of 250 each for conspiracy to commit arson. They were arrested in August 1965 for planning to burn an unoccupied Saline house on Woodingham Court. They were found guilty by a jury on February 15 1967.

Band Battle set for April 1 at Farm Council building

A Battle of the Bands contest sponsored by the Saline Jaycees will run with a dance at 8 p.m. Saturday April 1 at the Farm Council building. Area bands compete for 100 dollars with the winner advancing to the state contest in Grand Rapids on April 29 for a 500 dollar prize and Boston trip. Entry closes March 15. entries from Saline Ypsilanti and nearby towns are welcome with ages 12 to under 20. Tickets are 1 dollar at the door.
