Saline Hosts 20 Foreign Exchange Students Weekend

Saline High School Student Council invites 20 international students from Germany Sweden Norway Finland Uruguay Brazil Argentina and several African nations to stay with host families in Washtenaw County March 12 to 14. Students will attend classes give country talks join a panel discuss politics education parent child relations and dating customs and join a potluck dinner and American square dancing before returning home Saturday afternoon.

Beagle Boggle: Henry's Home, But Marsha's Missing

Marilyn Wackenhut found a beagle and two families reported lost dogs Henry and Marsha. Henry, found by Ed Henes, was returned to the Earths. Marsha remains missing after a fox hunting party sighting and a brief sighting near Bridgewater.

Saline area notes church, hospital, baptisms and visits

Rev Sheperd Crim led services at Houghton Lake church while families from Saline visited Nub's Nob. Hospital stays include Michael Burke and Mrs Mamie Burke. St Josaph Mercy Hospital patient Dan McLean had disc surgery. Baptisms for Craig Lossing and Sean Fosdick at St Paul UCC and many local family events.

Junior Child Study Club Affiliates With County Group

The Saline Junior Child Study Club voted to join the Washtenaw County Federation of Women's Clubs and will send its charter to the Michigan Association of Child Study Clubs for approval. Speaker Mrs. Mary Ann Hanselman of Goodyear’s Stores spoke at the meeting hosted by Mrs. Allen Rentschler with Mrs. Philip Badour and Mrs. Novell Liston. The April gathering will be at Mrs. James Keller’s home with hostesses Mrs. Jerry Losee and Mrs. Joseph Graf.

Memorial Day Weekend Rodeo Planned at 4-D Ranch

Saline Jaycees sponsor a four performance Memorial Day Weekend Rodeo at the 4-D Ranch on Waters Road with riders from across the United States. Committees led by Charles Lamberson and George Newton organize ads finance concessions grounds and ticketing. Last year area rodeos drew large crowds and this event aims to top them with saddle broncs Brahma bulls bulldogging and other standard rodeo events.

Bands to Play In District Festival Saturday

Saline High School and Junior High bands participate in the District Festival at Lincoln High School. The 76 member Junior High Band leaves at 7 15 am with a 8 50 am performance and returns about 11 am. The 86 member Senior High Band departs at 3 30 pm performs at 5 15 pm and returns about 7 pm. Both bands won first in 1962 and 1963. Director Art Katterjohn declines predictions.

Firemen's Ball Saturday With Kenny Volz Orchestra

Kenny Volz's orchestra will provide music for the annual Firemen's Ball at the American Legion Hall from 10 p.m. Saturday. Tickets cost 1 dollar per person and are available from Saline Volunteer Fire Department members. The event is open to Legionnaires and guests.

Anderson to lead Michigan Week events in Saline

Former Saline councilman George Anderson was appointed by May or Jackson T. Bennett to chair Michigan Week activities in Saline. The events run May 17 to May 23 and include Mayor's Exchange Day with Grant, a village about 40 miles north of Grand Rapids.

Hope Circus to Fund Sa line Student Scholarship

The Mills Bros Circus in May will fund a $350 yearly scholarship for a Saline student, based on need and good grades. excess proceeds may start next year’s fund. Tickets go on sale Tuesday via Kiwanis members Rexall stores in Washtenaw and Saline vendors, with advance prices 25 cents lower than at the gate. Two shows are set for May 4 at 3 45 pm and 8 pm on Saline Ann Arbor Rd Farm Council property.

National Girl Scout week March 8 to 14 brings a full schedule. Brow Nies and localGirl Scouts will meet at Saline Baptist Church and Elementary School Sunday at 10 50 am Uniforms are encouraged. Senior Girl Scouts attend a District IT banquet at Forsythe Junior High Ann Arbor Monday cadets Tuesday. Latinos hold Court of Awards Friday at Intermediate School. A camping film and a display by Senior Troop 279 will feature. Scout displays will be viewable in downtown store windows all week.

Chelsea Tops SHS in Last Few Minutes

Chelsea edge Saline 68 63 after a late surge by the Bulldogs to spoil Saline's bid for fourth in Washtenaw Conference. Ron Tucker led Saline with 29 points while Curt Farley sparked Chelsea with 30 as Saline ends season with five conference wins and seven losses. JV Saline won 62 54 to finish 9 3 in league. 118 attend Blue and Gold Banquet with Pack 474 charter presented.

Planning Commission to send subdivision ordinance No 136 revision to City Council after Tuesday meeting. Re-evaluation aims to clarify rules, shift approval burden to the commission, and address many non conforming uses. Saline Senior Plans 16th Annual Black and Bridle Show

A Saline senior at Michigan State University helps plan MSU’s 16th annual Black and Bridle Horse Show set for April 3 and 4. Gen eral co chair Janice Harwood and Cass City sophomore John Battel lead a student produced event with over 50 students bringing horses to the campus livestock pavilion for three performances.
