Saline Jaycee Junior Champ Track Opens After Rain Delay
The 1969 Saline Jaycee Junior Champ track meet opened Saturday June 21 with Mayor Hugh Keveling lighting the symbolic torch. Runners led the relay to the high school track as rain postponed the event and a wet surface challenged competitors. Marlene Girbach dominated the senior girls division winning 100 and 200 yard dashes and long jump earning a chance to compete in Detroit on July 19 and 20. Rod White and Jerry Lake led the senior boys division with top finishes while Keith Smith and Jerry Hill posted standout times and jumps in the intermediate division suggesting a strong Hornet track future.

A total of 534 area young people have registered for the city summer recreation program. Clem Corona, director, reported this week. Scouts Attend Idaho Jamboree From Michigan Area
Bruce Masterson son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Masterson will be one of 30 area Boy Scouts at the 7th National Boy Scout Jamboree in Farragut State Park Idaho. Three adult leaders including Harold West will accompany Scouts from Ann Arbor Brighton Dexter Howell Manchester Milan Pinckney Ypsilanti Saline. They depart Ann Arbor July 12 and return July 26 as 40 000 Scouts and Explorers gather nationwide.

Trinity Lutheran Picnic Set June 29

Mader Accepts St Clair Intermediate School District Post
John Mader has accepted the superintendent position at the St Clair Intermediate School District in St Clair County. He will leave University Hospital Schools to begin duties in early July and move with his wife Pat and five children after choosing a residence. The district serves about 30 000 students across seven districts, with roughly half in Port Huron.

Old House Burns Down After Repeated Fires
An abandoned Maple Rd house in Pittsfield Township finally burned to the ground on Monday. Fire crews stood guard about three hours to keep the flames from spreading after a history of at least four prior fires, with a barn on the same estate having burned two months earlier. The house belonged to the estate of the late Emma Drake, and no arson motive is indicated.
