Saline Area School Board plans work sessions after voters rejected a 17.78 mill levy for 76-77. A August 23 paper ballot election is set to ask for millage again as teachers face potential job cuts and calendars await a fixed levy.
Worries rose in Saline as a low flying two engine C-46 cargo plane passed at about 300 feet and a 2:30 p.m. weather warning followed by a 9 p.m. siren. Police logged tornado sightings in Hudson Addison and Morenci and maintained alert until the threat passed.
City of Saline enforces annexation for sewer and water hookups amid a court case involving T&M Chevrolet and Lyle's Wheel and Axle. County Health Department ordered sewer connections after sewage disposal issues. Pittsfield Township has not released adjacent Quick property, blocking annexation for Lyle's and T&M.
Saline parks will gain a fresh look as youths aged 14 to 21 participate in the CETA program cleaning debris mowing grass and building trails. City Clerk Bill King reports 13 applicants qualified while interviews were postponed due to a storm alert and a new session is set for Friday June 18. The eight week program aims to place youths by June 21 with selections to be made this week by Ite County.

Saline Fire Department responded to two small fires this week. A cab fire Monday night started in the air cleaner and caused little damage. A grass fire on Jordan Rd Tuesday burned a small patch before being extinguished.
Saline City Council unanimously appoints Jim Levieit, longtime Police Chief, as Director of Staff to coordinate operations across seven city departments while remaining Police Chief. Bill Taylor moves to City Hall as acting DPW supervisor with a six month leave from the force. Confirmation set for June 21.
