Six teams join a men’s softball league this summer to play regulation games twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Rainouts are planned for Wednesdays or Fridays, with a ten dollar entrance fee to cover lighting improvements. Anyone wishing to play but not on a team may join.
The schedule lists June 20 to July 27 with matchups among six teams: Teachers, Bridgew, Young, Alumni, J.C.C.'s, and Saline. Include makeups and tournament notes with days labeled M Th F W.
SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING June 9 1961 approves backfilling all sanitary and storm sewers and water lines within street boundaries including lawns with sand or gravel. City Superintendent must approve the backfill. Mayor Bennett and six councilmen attend with one absent.
The Saline Little League release lists national league games from July 3 to August 11 including Pirates Phillies Dodgers Cardinals Braves and Phillies Cardinals matchups and American League fixtures July 3 to August 18 featuring White Sox Tigers Red Sox Yankees Indians with several date ranges. The notice also reminds retired individuals may work part time while drawing social security benefits and to consult Booklet No 23 at the local social security office.
Annie Lou and Danny Dill MGM stars join the Duke of Paducah for a two hour jam boree at Saline High School gym on June 25 with shows at 3 and 8 pm. Sixteen acts include Jimmy Newman Charlie McCoy Dotty West Johnny Tona and Bobby Smith. Sponsored by Saline Police Association with advance reduced tickets at Corner Drug Store and via Junior Deputy Sheriff officers. House to house sale planned June 24 by Junior Deputy Sheriff volunteers.
A hunter safety course supervised by the State Conservation Department will be held at Tri County Sports Men's League clubhouse on Moon Road on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 PM starting June 19. Open to junior and senior high students with no advance registration. Hogs and cattle can carry leptospirosis.
