Dance Award Earns 75 for Kathy Dieterle at High School Event
Kathy Dieterle, 16, won the first annual High School Band Dance Award after the recital benefiting the band. The three night event drew capacity crowds and netted $370. Becky Hehr presented the $75 award amid photos by Otto Gumnesch. Dieterle, daughter of Ken Dieterle, plans to attend a Dance Caravan in New York City.

Zoning Hearing Set For Annexed Astin Road Land
A public hearing is scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday in the council chamber to fix zoning on 101 acres on Astin Rd recently annexed to the city. Youth Wins Air Medal and Bronze Star for Viet Nam Heroics
Cpl. Michael Patrick Hayes son of Mr and Mrs George Hayes of 8355 Klager Rd received the Bronze Star and Air Medal for heroic aerial achievement with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 265 in Vietnam. Hayes enlisted in 1966 and served 17 months there before returning to the United States en route to California. The actions occurred November 20, 1968, with praise for courage and composure under fire. He is a Saline High School 1966 graduate and is engaged to Judy McGee of Kernersville, N C with plans to wed in August.

Memorial Award Honors Local Man at Jackson College
During commencement at Jackson Community College a memorial award honoring David Neil Allen was announced. Allen, a former Jackson College business instructor who died in a 1967 highway accident, was a Ann Arbor High School alumnus with degrees from Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan. The award cup will sit in the business department and bear the name of an outstanding student each year, with potential future cash consideration. Mrs. Dicks, his mother, attended the ceremony with family.

Legion and Rotary Send Delegates To Boys State
Six Saline youths attend the 32nd American Legion Wolverine Boys State at Michigan State University with 1250 plus participants from across Michigan. William B. Lutz Post named five delegates and five alternates, while the Rotary Club of Saline chose one delegate and one alternate. Delegates include Mike Graf Victor Cook Joe McCann Kirk Bowen and Bradley Brackney. Alternates are Glenn Burkhardt Richard Goltz Peter Klein Dale Bishop and David Houdek. Rotary delegate is Mike Hintz with Gary Ernst as alternate.

Milan Marine Dies in Action in Viet Nam
Lance Corporal Larry E. Eglinsdoerfer of Milan was killed by a rocket in his bunker while with the First Marine Division in South Viet Nam. He was 21, drafted April 1968, a 1966 Milan High School graduate and 4-H enthusiast with family roots in Milan and Saline. He had earned the Purple Heart and Cross of Gallantry and is survived by his parents, four sisters, three brothers, and a grandmother in Saline.

Saline district voters reject millage bids while reelecting trustees
Saline area voters re-elected Max Collins and Mrs. Robe rt Heiserman to four-year terms on the School Board as Prof. Don ald Tinkle trailed. The district rejected 10.85 mills for operation and a 0.5 mill for special education by narrow margins, with 1,090 voters turnout. The district will schedule another millage election as soon as possible after a county board review.
