The Hornet Opens With Dance Friday

The Hornet club for young people debuts in the former hatchery building on S Ann Arbor street operated by Dick Lutz and Don Nestor. Membership costs 5 a year or 50 cents for a one week pass with a dance at 8 p.m. featuring Bob Greens Electro as the opening act.

Scouts Build Sa line Valley bridge for film at UM

Scouts from a local troop built the Sa line Valley Farms bridge with speed and practicality for inclusion in a University of Michigan Audio Visual Education Center film More Than Meets the Eye. Crippled Dee Goes Missing From Weisenreder Family Farm

The Weisenreders of Weber Road mourn the loss of their pet deer named Dee who vanished after Memorial Day. Adopted a year ago, Dee had a damaged leg amputated by a veterinarian, then grew into a neighborhood favorite before disappearing.

Summer Band and Events Calendar Announced

Director Art Katterjohn released schedules for summer band classes from 5th to 8th grade with two morning sessions per week and fixed times for 6th 7th and 8th grades. Senior High Band meets Tuesday evenings with the Manchester Band starting June 11 and June 18.

Hospital Meets Set In Saline Community

The Saline Community hospital operating committee will meet at 8 p.m. Wednesday June 19 at the office of Stanton Roesch on N. Ann Arbor street. A medical staff meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday June 21 at the Saline Savings Bank meeting room.

Council Deadlocked on Appointment to Hemmge Vacancy

City Council remains split 3 to 3 on appointing to the unexpired term of Jerome Hemmge who resigned June 1. George Johnson and George Anderson may consider other candidates while Meister and Mrs. Douthat stand as finalists. Hemmge’s term runs January 1, 1962 to January 1, 1964.

Saline area residents pick Hugh Austin and Emerson Haeussler to four year terms on the Board of Education and reject ending the free textbook policy by 452 to 273. Incumbents Gerald Coe and Lauren Wild are ousted as turnout reaches 733. Final board meeting set for Wednesday. new board to organize in July.

Junior deputies invited to gun demonstration at club

Local junior deputies are invited to attend a gun demonstration by Saline Auxiliary Police at 6 pm Thursday at Tri County Sportsman's Club on Moon Road. Those who wish to attend should meet Bill Clark's home. transportation will be provided by the boys' fathers.

Saline area youngsters may register for the city's summer recreation program between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday at the Intermediate School. Participants must be at least seven years old.

Heavy Storms Disrupt Area Phone Service

A week of severe storms disrupted telephone service in Saline and surrounding districts with about 100 subscribers temporarily cut off. Injured was Bill Dusterbeck who was hurt while trimming a tree struck by lightning on E Michigan Avenue. Thorughout the area some repairs required extra crews and service was expected to be restored by Wednesday night.
