Saline Bicentennial panel weighs Rogers settlement

The Saline Area Bicentennial Committee will vote on a $600 settlement offer from Rogers Company of Ohio at a public meeting Thursday. Rogers seeks payment for April services plus prior affiliated work for August through March, following a $6,500 contract termination.

Cyclist Loses Leg In Saline Memorial Day Crash

A Milan motorcyclist lost a leg after a Memorial Day crash on Saline-Milan Road. He was rushed to U M hospital in fair condition and remains in intensive care. In Saline police action a fugitive was arrested May 28 after a check showed two county warrants. Memorial Day ceremonies at Oakwood Cemetery featured Rev Richard Todd and Attorney John Todd as speakers among local veterans and families.

Lodi Increases Support for Local Parks and School

Lodi votes to boost funding for recreation and Saline Area Community School, adding 1000 to recreation and 500 to the school program for one year. City of Saline has budgeted parks funds since inception, with peak spending in 1975 at about 139500 for Brecon and Peoples Parks.

Saline dedicates new City Hall flag poles and base

A Saline ceremony honoring Peace Dignity and Beauty marked the dedication of new flag poles at City Hall. Frank Carter led the event with Mayor George Anderson noting community support and donations including a flag donated by former Mayor Beach and wife. The 7th grade band performed as the Star Spangled Banner was sung and the group moved to Memorial Day activities afterward.

Saline prepares its Spirit of 48176 Bicentennial show with rehearsals at the high school led by co producers Jack Livingstone and Betty Stewart Robinson. George Gyde leads a set crew while tickets cost 2 for adults 1 for students and are available from Sandy Moore and local banks with performance nights June 10 11 12 at 8 p m.

Beach Switches to Republican in Washtenaw District 3 Race

Hubert Beach, longtime Saline City figure and former mayor, filed candidacy for Washtenaw County Commissioner District 3 as a Republican. He joins Margaret O Connor and Jon Passow in the GOP primary to challenge incumbent Albert Bredernitz, who opted out after 31 years. Beach plans to visit about 2,000 doors before the August primary, reflecting a party switch from Democrat. The Democratic candidate is Theodora J. Van Houten, who will run unopposed.

White enamel vandalism covered a Saline High School wall and entrance while a school bus in the Union School lot suffered multiple cracked windows. Fourteen half windows plus a door window were broken. estimated damage near $200. A separate case notes a yet unnamed "Days Left" carving on banding hall wall.
